UPDATE, FINAL, I HOPE!

My apologies for the many emails earlier since I was hacked. And I have had the strangest things happen. I had opened a new account with FB under the pinkquilter, yes the same name, and that was hacked but later recovered. Yes, very stupid of me, but I deleted it and then it showed up again. I believe it is the hacker who keeps doing it. I have blocked and deleted both old accounts.

My email account still is thepinkquilter@gmail.com

My FB account is dlspallina

My email was not changed as it wasn’t hacked so you can continue to use it for emails only.

PLEASE! DO NOT CLICK ON thepinkquilter FB account! THAT IS NOT ME. No matter if I delete it, it still pops up. That is the hacker doing it and I do not want my members to be hacked.

Hopefully this will be the end of it.

Okay, the hacker has been kicked off of Scrappy Quilters but in order to do that, Karen and Cheryl had to sacrifice my original idenity (the one with the giraffe profile picture). That person has been banned and blocked, but my trade-off is that I lost ALL of my contacts here and my previous posts as I had that for many years. You know that I am a very fair person and would never try to scam anyone, so I am asking for the sake of our group and its reputation, that you keep in contact with me at the above FB account and continue to respond when I post. This has been a very difficult time as I miss my friends and many of you were here when I first started this group. It is also important as we have a lot of swaps going on and we need to keep in touch so we know what is happening. Thank you for your patience with me and your friendships.

I am almost at the point of leaving Scrappy Quilters and letting Karen and Cheryl take over.

BUST THE BITS AND PIECES PARTY 2024

OCTOBER 17, 2024

Is your stash starting to expand and invading other areas than your sewing studio? Are your muffin bins topped and about to explode at any minute?

Do you feel overwhelmed? Not sure how to use it or what to do with it, and almost to the point of giving it away? I feel that way too, at times!  Not to worry! I believe I have a cure for this common ailment. Let’s bust our scraps, especially those little pieces that seem to multiply when your back is turned.

Each Thursday I will find some patterns that will deal with the little pieces and even some of the larger and odd pieces that we all tend to accumulate. Today is a mix of scraps and odd shaped pieces that might be good for applique.

This first one looks promising for small scraps and is from Darlene Michaud with Crumb Quilting, Making Odd Shaped Block Squares

1.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WqNH2Q7wAQ

From Martingale, a video on teeny tiny pieces.

2.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds49HfHj-Zg

And from Just Get It Done Quilts, Chip It Good

That’s all for today and I will see you next Thursday!

SCRAPPY QUILTERS GENERAL GUIDELINES AND RULES FOR SWAPPING

January 2025

PLEASE SCROLL ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM, READ AND POST “AGREE” BELOW.

Welcome to Scrappy Quilters!  As we have grown very quickly and there are a lot of questions from new members, I feel it is necessary to set up a few rules that do need to be amended with so many people.

We ask that there be no flaming, rudeness, politics, religion, bad behavior or language. Please remember to treat each other as you would want to be treated, with respect.   I realize that postings can be misread and might be hurtful to others as it is written and not in a tone that you would hear when actually speaking to someone on the phone, as an example. Please think through what you are saying before posting.

NO ADVERTISING:  You can post links to patterns here but make sure to give credit to the author.  If you have an item to be sold, do it on your own site, not here.  People who continue to advertise or sell will be BANNED from the group.  NO t-shirt ads, giveaways, mugs or other ads, no matter how cute, are allowed, as we all have been burned by a few people earlier on that just wanted to sell junk here and it turned out they were scamming others.  Please do not advertise for any companies that make or sell other products as I will remove you from the group without notice and you will be banned from Scrappy Quilters.

MODERATORS:  Donna Coppin, Karen Wythe and Cheryl Hall

We are always looking for new swap ideas and people to help hostess.  Please keep in mind that unless it is a Secret Sister Swap, all swaps decentralized.  That means signing up and then sending the list on to everyone.  Please send your ideas to me and we can work it out together.

We are also always looking for people with new ideas to share and we welcome that.  You can post videos, links or ideas to the group.  If you want to start a challenge or a mystery quilt, please let me know and we can set something up.

EVENTS PAGE:  In order to set up an event, you need to be a moderator. Contact me with any ideas and we can work something out and I will give you the information on how to set up an event.

FILES:  You can set up a file for a swap or other event as a moderator.  Please note Files and Folders are subject to being removed or archived after the beginning of a new year in order to keep it tidy and we do have a lot going on. They may be opened under Files, Archives, unless deleted.  Exception is if the swap is a long one, like a Round Robin or an ongoing swap.

PHOTOS:  Please feel free to set up an album for yourself.  Our photos are a little messy but we plan to fix that in the future.

SWAPPING RULES FOR 2025:

1.  Email me or the person in charge of the swap with the name of the swap in the subject line. My email address is thepinkquilter@gmail.com  or the hostess in charge. Send your name, address and other pertinent information in the email before the swap closes.

2.  Once we have at least 5-7 players, (max 12) then the swap will close, and you will receive by email a list of the people you will send to. This will be done by private messaging with the group name.  Please keep messages restricted to swap info only as the messages can get lost easily.  I reserve the right to go in and clean up unnecessary chats.

3.  When you send the swap out, please post the tracking number so we can keep track of the swap and so we don’t have to hunt you down to make sure that it is taken care of.

A swap can be closed or cancelled for lack of participation.   IF there are less than 4 swappers, the swap will be cancelled.

EXCEPTIONS:  My hope is that we will have several swaps going on to choose from and lots of swappers.  If we have more than 10 swappers, then a second group may be created to accommodate everyone. All swaps will be one-on-one, no centralized swaps.

COMMUNICATION:  I feel that this needs to be addressed yet again, and I really hate to nag. In order to be involved in a swap, you have to communicate with everyone, especially when you are sending out your swaps and receiving.  We believe in giving everyone a chance to participate in swaps, but:

1. If you decide that you are not able to do the swap, please have the courtesy to let me know before the deadline, and it can be arranged.

2.  If something happens during the swap and you’re not able to follow through please let us know and we can possibly help you out. We cannot help if you don’t let us know.

3. Please note that you will be given several chances to decide to stay or leave before the swap starts, and if you decide after the swap has closed, and you have not let me or the hostess know that you are not able to do the swap, you will be banned from swapping.

 4. If you drop from the swap in the middle of a swap and do not let me or a swap moderator know, that is cause for being banned from the group.  That is not only rude but unfair to all the other swappers that are counting on you!

SCRAPPY QUILTERS SWAP IDEAS 2025

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE, AGAIN

Hello Everyone

I am back after being lead down a wild rabbit hole that led me to being hacked. But I overcame it with a lot of help from my friends! Just a friendly reminder, be careful what links you click on, they can be dangerous, and change your passwords!

I also wanted to mention that I may be changing my email here in the near future for insurance and I will let you know when it happens. Please continue to post and to friend me again so that we can set up next years’ events. My FB page is being rebuilt very slowly as the hacker stripped it clean and I am restarting again.

ADDENDUM:

I just want to add that if you should get hacked you will probably get phone calls from companies asking about a “a suspicous charge to your account and that they need to confirm it”. DO NOT ANSWER THAT CALL, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY! And report it to FB. That is just another ruse to get you to go a little further down the rabbit hole and that can cause financial problems. Hang up on them and block their number.

The person that hacked me is using the email donnacoppin@gmail.com with a picture of a giraffe as the profile picture. DO NOT FRIEND HER/HE/IT!! Instead, protect yourself by reporting it and blocking it! Remember she stole my page and she is probably scamming other people. UNFRIEND HER and BLOCK HER!

Instead, when you block her, please refriend me at dlspallina@gmail.com. That is my new FB profile. I still have my original email, thepinkquilter@gmail.com but am in the process of changing to dlspallina@gmail.com. I would appreciate your help in getting rid of this predator off of FB. When I contacted FB about it, they said there was nothing wrong with the account and refused to go any further with my complaint and as a result, I cannot use that FB account.

Please remember to check your email account for any suspicious emails or a lot of spam, and change your password often.

Thank you for reading this and take care online.

BUST THE BITS AND PIECES PARTY 2024

OCTOBER 10, 2024

Is your stash starting to expand and invading other areas than your sewing studio? Are your muffin bins topped and about to explode at any minute?

Do you feel overwhelmed? Not sure how to use it or what to do with it, and almost to the point of giving it away? I feel that way too, at times!  Not to worry! I believe I have a cure for this common ailment. Let’s bust our scraps, especially those little pieces that seem to multiply when your back is turned.

Each Thursday I will find some patterns that will deal with the little pieces and even some of the larger and odd pieces that we all tend to accumulate. I personally have at least 3 bins full of small sized scraps and I am not sure what to do with them.  Wait!  I just found an idea on youtube, or actually more than that.

Let’s look at the first one from Treasure Books.  She shows how to make some fun small projects that can be used as gifts.

1.  Use Up Your FABRIC SCRAPS to Make Amazing Projects! (youtube.com)

And from Thuy Crafts, some Unique Sewing Ideas for Scrappy Fabrics

2.  (135) Unique Sewing Idea For Scrap Fabric That You Should Try – YouTube

And finally, from Sew the Distance, Stitch and Flip Block Tutorial

3.  (135) Stitch and Flip Quilt Block Tutorial | Quilting with Scraps | Foundation Piecing – YouTube

That’s all for today!  I will see you again next Thursday!

What to do with all those big pieces?

Just an idea for large pieces that you just don’t want to cut into. that are just too cute or pretty to cut up. Why not take them and make them into tablecloths? I have some fun Halloween and Christmas pieces that I love but will not use, so instead, I just folded the edges over twice, ironed them, did a zig-zag stitch and VOILA! I have tablecloths that I can use or either gift to friends and family. In fact, that’s what I am intending on doing, sending them to my sister and her friends to use. Oh, and did I mention it uses up a couple of yards and very few scraps afterwards.

I just love the witches, just too cute and can be used as a decoration rather than cutting it up!

The striped fabric is just a smaller piece but look how it sets off the green fabric.
