BUST THE BITS AND PIECES PARTY 2025

DECEMBER 26, 2025

Good Morning!

Christmas is over and the gifts have been given.  Most of us probably got more gadgets, fabric and other fun stuff!   So now, where do we put it, especially if you have a small room or storage area.

For small items like blades, needles, etc, how about a tackle box.  This is a short video.

Or for extra fat quarters, or scissors, or other goodies.  Another short but good video.

Or how about 10 different ways to store rulers and templates.

Thank you for stopping by and I will be back next Thursday with more ideas!

BUST THE BITS AND PIECES PARTY 2025

DECEMBER 4, 2025

Can you believe that there are only 21 days left?  It’s time to get our Christmas gifts in order for friends and family.  There are tops waiting their turn to quilted and bound, stockings to be made and hung and quick gifts for friends!  And quilts for donation! What is a quilter to do?

Oh, darn!  I forgot about birthdays in December!  Maybe new stockings, table runners or pot holders!

Let’s look at table runners.  This is from Nana’s Journey and they are fast and easy!

And from The Sewing Channel, 20 Fast Gifts.

And for stockings, we have from Missouri Star Quilts.

Well, time to get busy!  Have fun and I will see you again next Thursday!

Thanks for stopping by!

THE RETURN OF THE LOVELY UGLY SWAP 2025

    HURRY!

SIGN UPS FOR THIS CHALLENGE ENDS ON JUNE 10, 2025, AND THE FQS ARE GOING FAST!

SIGN-UPS ARE FILLING UP FAST! Don’t miss out on this fun challenge!

A few years ago, Scrappy Quilters used to host a challenge called The Lovely Ugly.  As owner, I would send out two pieces of fabric to our players and the challenge was to make something fun with it, like a table runner, potholder or whatever you wanted.  Your choice.

For our new members, you are probably asking why we call it Lovely Ugly.  Simple, the pieces you received don’t necessarily match, so you get to decide how to use them together.  But you get to choose one other piece from your stash to help make it work.    You must use as much as possible of the fabric sent.  Don’t worry, it’s only two pieces together, a FQ each.  Don’t worry about it being perfect, stunning or beautiful.  The idea is to get out of our comfort zones and play with new techniques or ideas.

And with that said, I am now introducing:

THE RETURN OF THE LOVELY UGLY CHALLENGE 2025

Oh, and did I mention that there are prizes involved!!  There are first, second and third place for the most creative, zaniest, and/or decorative pieces.  I will set up a site where you can vote on them.  Prizes to be determined later after we have signups.

Oh, if you did the LUC before, please post pictures if you still have them for inspiration!

    Now for the RULES:

Signups start now and will close on June 10, 2025.  Fabric will be mailed out on June 11, 2025.

Message me at thepinkquilter@gmail.com privately with your name and mailing address, Lovely Ugly Challenge in the subject line.

NOTE:   I will choose the fabrics myself.  You get what I send you.

Projects must be completed by August 10, 2025.

PICTURES OF YOUR COMPLETED PROJECT(S) MUST BE EMAILED TO ME AT THE ABOVE ADDRESS BEFORE AUGUST 20, 2025.  Pictures must be clear and show complete project, 1 photo per entry only.  You can do more than 1 project if you desire, but it must contain fabric sent.  Please send photos for more than 1 project separately so I can keep track for the voting.   Your name and name of the project should be included with the photo(s).

You must keep your creation secret until after the voting is completed.  No sharing on FB or Scrappy Quilters.

If you decide not to participate in the challenge after signing up, the fabric is still yours.  It is yours to keep or give away but don’t send it back.

VOTING:  Will start on August 20, 2025.  Voting will last for 2 weeks and then be tallied within a few days following.

SETUP FOR VOTING:  I will post a link for voting when available.

When voting, there will be pictures of your creations with the name of the project.  Voting is Secret.  Underneath, there will be 3 categories to choose from:

    1.  Moat Creative
    2. Most Decorative
    3. Zaniest

Names will be revealed after the voting along with our winners.  Prizes will be determined beforehand (still deciding) and mailed out soon after the count is completed.

Please feel free to share this post with your friends, the more the merrier!

    Hello Everyone!

Can you believe it is July already?  What happened to the last couple of months?

Just a friendly reminder about our challenge and the deadline of August 10.  I hope that everyone is having fun with your projects and I am dying to see how they turn out!

As for prizes, I am still searching for the perfect goodies to send out.  I will be going to the coast next week and plan to do a little shopping there.  Who knows what might come back with me?  😉  I will let you know next week about the prizes.

    Have fun creating!

Each Thursday I will find some ideas and patterns to use up some of the scraps and even some helpful hints to declutter, and control our stash.  It is still chilly outside, so this is the perfect time to get comfy in your studio and maybe take inventory.  I have been doing that for the past couple of weeks and can you believe that I have added to my UFO list rather than marking them off!  I guess I need to sew faster!

Let’s look at deciding on what needs to be done now.  I mean some of the oldies but goodies that are older than my grandkids!

Let’s look at Karen Brown’s video on This Old Quilt Top for inspiration to spur us on to a finish!

    SCRAPPY QUILTERS’ NEWS UPDATE

    Hello Everyone

There are a few changes coming up here with our group, and the first one is that I will be stepping down as moderator of this wonderful group. Karen and Cheryl will be in charge of taking care of business here such as taking over the swaps and activities for me, but I plan to continue to participate in activities and relax a little. I have full confidence in them as they have been my right hand for several years and always there when needed. If you have any questions, please let Karen or Cheryl know, or me.

I am retiring but will still be the owner. I have been managing our group since 1989, give or take a couple of years, and I am feeling a little overwhelmed with health issues, and my own growing stack of UFOs. We will still continue to do the Bust The Bits and Pieces Party every Thursday and also continue to do the UFO Challenge every month.

Thank you for a wonderful journey with such talented and creative people.— feeling blessed.

It’s time for a New Discussion on Quilting

Do you quilt it yourself? What method do you use, FMQ, edge-to-edge, FMQ, rulers or what other method?

Do you send your quilts out for someone to finish?

Or do you take your flimsy to the guild and they finish it?

How many flimsies do you have waiting in the wings? How many are sandwiched and ready to be quilted?

I will go ahead and start. If it is for a special person or it is too large for me to handle, say queen to king sized, I will send it out to be quilted.

I like to edge-to-edge on my embroidery machine, but I also do FMQ especially on smaller projects.

Flimsies, I have 6 flimsies waiting in the wings. None are sandwiched yet.

Please feel free to comment below.

Do you feel overwhelmed? Not sure how to use it or what to do with it, and almost to the point of giving it away? I feel that way too, at times!  Not to worry! I believe I have a cure for this common ailment. Let’s bust our scraps, especially those little pieces that seem to multiply when your back is turned.

Each Thursday I will find some patterns that will deal with the little pieces and even some of the larger and odd pieces that we all tend to accumulate.  Today we have a few holiday ideas.

    TURNAROUND

Welcome to Scrappy Quilters’ 2025 Quilt Along!

    PLEASE READ:

ATTENTION: Due to an ongoing illness that I am having a hard time recovering from, this quilt will be on hold until further notice. Thank you for understanding. My apologies.

Why is it called Turnaround? We are going to make some fun blocks but we are going to turn them on their ear, so to speak. Think about when you see a simple block, such as King’s Crown. It is basically a set of the same 4 pieces to make the Flying Geese blocks put together. But what if we take those Flying Geese and NOT make the King’ s Crown, and instead turn the geese upside down.

Watch this video to see how to put together the King’s Crown:

Now using the flying geese as a separate block, see what happens:

You have a totally different block to work with. These will be the cornerstones of our quiltalong!

We are going to take apart some of the more common blocks as we go along and create something different. I hope you will join us as we explore and experiment with more ideas with blocks. Kickoff date is January 15, 2025 and fabric requirements will be available then along with the first and second blocks and their directions.

Just to let everyone know, there is no registration required for the sewalong. All patterns are free from FB and youtube.com and can be found there. All I ask is that you drop a comment now and then and let me know what you think or if you have any ideas to share.

    Thank you!

MERRY CHRISTMAS and an early gift to pique your interest further, here is a picture of the quilt:

The blocks can be done in either 12 or 9 inches and directions will be posted on January 15, 2025. We should have the top together by March 14, 2025 as it goes together fairly quickly!

    See you soon.

    January 15, 2025

    Good morning everyone!

As promised here is a list of fabric requirements. This quilt will measure 38 x 38 square when put together. You can then add a border around it if you wish.

Here are my fabric choices. Yes, they are different from the EQ8 coloring, and even though I do like those colors of red, green, yellow and white background, what I had in my stash didn’t really make those colors POP for me. I decided to go with some fun colors instead. I am using some grunge fabric with a fun fish fabric that goes together so nicely.

These are my primary colors that I want to use for the blocks. But notice that there are ladder blocks and I thought that using some different bright colors would make those little square in the ladder pop, and also with the center block, Mosaic, the little diamonds will also pop!

Primary Grunge fabrics with the fish fabric as a focus.

And here are the fabric requirements:

I still need to cut my fabric and this weekend I will post my blocks.

    FABRIC REQUIREMENTS:

The first block is called King’s Crown. Now if you look closely it is the upside version of the flying geese with a ladder attached. It may look a little complicated at first, but when it is broken down into smaller parts, it goes together fairly easily. You will need to make 4 of these. Here are the instructions and once I have mine put together I will post step-by-step directions to help if you need it.

I realized that I had uploaded the 5 inch version of the blocks. My apologies, they should be 12.5 inches unfinished. There are 2 pages, so please make sure to download both. I have been down with a head cold for the past few days and have it partially cut out. Thank you for your patience.

My apologies to everyone waiting for the blocks. I have been down with a terrible cold and have not been up to sewing for the past week or so. Thank you for understanding.

    UPDATE, FINAL, I HOPE!

My apologies for the many emails earlier since I was hacked. And I have had the strangest things happen. I had opened a new account with FB under the pinkquilter, yes the same name, and that was hacked but later recovered. Yes, very stupid of me, but I deleted it and then it showed up again. I believe it is the hacker who keeps doing it. I have blocked and deleted both old accounts.

My email account still is thepinkquilter@gmail.com

    My FB account is dlspallina

My email was not changed as it wasn’t hacked so you can continue to use it for emails only.

PLEASE! DO NOT CLICK ON thepinkquilter FB account! THAT IS NOT ME. No matter if I delete it, it still pops up. That is the hacker doing it and I do not want my members to be hacked.

Hopefully this will be the end of it.

Okay, the hacker has been kicked off of Scrappy Quilters but in order to do that, Karen and Cheryl had to sacrifice my original idenity (the one with the giraffe profile picture). That person has been banned and blocked, but my trade-off is that I lost ALL of my contacts here and my previous posts as I had that for many years. You know that I am a very fair person and would never try to scam anyone, so I am asking for the sake of our group and its reputation, that you keep in contact with me at the above FB account and continue to respond when I post. This has been a very difficult time as I miss my friends and many of you were here when I first started this group. It is also important as we have a lot of swaps going on and we need to keep in touch so we know what is happening. Thank you for your patience with me and your friendships.

I am almost at the point of leaving Scrappy Quilters and letting Karen and Cheryl take over.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

My favorite part is reading Luke Chapter 1, when Zacharias and Elizabeth were told they were to have a son and name him John. Mary who had just learned that she was pregnant with our Lord Jesus, went to visit her aunt Elizabeth and upon entering, the baby inside jumped for joy on hearing Mary arrive! I can only imagine the excitement!

This is the beginning of His Holiness, of His neverending love and forgiveness until the end of time. What a wonderous sight to behold Him in the manger! Let’s remember all that He has done, will do and that He came to redeem His lambs! Let the Holy Angels sing for our Lord has come!

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

    DECEMBER 18, 2O25

I can’t believe there are only 2 more weeks left in this year!  Where did the time go?

Are you a list maker like  me?   How is that I have a set number of projects to finish and I wind up with 10 more for the next year!  To me, that means that I  need to start planning on what I want to do for 2026.

Today, let’s look at how we can set ourselves up for success!  The first thing we need is to make a list of EVERYTHING in our stash; scraps, leftover blocks, partial quilts, flimsies, unwanted projects and whatever is rolling around in our minds!

Let’s start with a list.  Everyone has one but they are set up differently.  Maybe these will help us!

From Ginnie Lynn, How to Tackle UFOs, 5 Steps.

And from Scrap Fabric Love, My WIPs and UFOs, Which One Should I finish.
