Quilt Show

Hi Everyone

We are just finishing up the final day of the quilt show here in Fresno.  I only did one day and I am glad as my feet are still hurting from standing all day!    I had a blast as did everyone else and I believe in the first 4 hours we had over 500 visitors.   I volunteered for the guild’s Country Store for 2 hours and then did security at the end of the day.  There were a lot of beautiful quilted items there and about 20 vendors there selling anything from fabric to comfortable shoes to work in!  This is the first time I had done a show and there is a lot of hard work involved in getting it set up and taken down again and the ladies in charge have this down to a science.  Good thing we only do it every 2 years! In fact, I go back this evening to pick up my quilts.  I actually entered for the very first time 4 quilts and am still excited about it!

I tried to download the DVD of the show so I could share but apparently it’s protected somehow and will not allow me to make a copy.  Sorry about that.  But I do believe that if you go to sjvqd.org in the next day or so, you can view the pictures there online.  But I do believe that if you go to sjvqd.org in the next day or so, you can view the pictures there online. Just go to quilt show on the blog and it will direct you.

Thanks for letting me share.  I will chat more later.

BONUS BLOCK FOR ONCE A WEEK KEEP YOUR OWN

Good morning

As promised here is the bonus block for March:

Today, we have a fun block to play with and a little challenging.  The block is 9 inches.  Remember, these are just blocks to challenge us and are not meant to be put into a quilt together, though if you do find one that would make a good quilt, go for it.  I will be doing mine scrappy.  The name of the block is Midnight Moths and can be found at:  http://www.quilterscache.com/M/MidnightMothsBlock.html.

Have fun!  I am off to the quilt show and will be back this evening!

Once A Week Keep Your Own March #4

Good Morning

Since there are 5 Sundays in March, we will have a challenge block but I will post that next Saturday.  Today, we have a fun block to play with and a little challenging.  The block is 7 inches.  Remember, these are just blocks to challenge us and are not meant to be put into a quilt together, though if you do find one that would make a good quilt, go for it.  I will be doing mine scrappy.  The name of the block is Another Pineapple Block and can be found here at:  http://www.quilterscache.com/A/AnotherPineappleBlock.html.

You have the rest of the month to post your March blocks.  Or if you are new to our group, you can play catch up by following the list of blocks already made.  You also have the option of passing on a block if you feel that it is too hard or just don’t want to do the block.  The blocks will be of different sizes and there may be some different techniques involved, such as paper piecing, applique, etc.  These are just for practice to hone our skills.

Here are the blocks starting with January to the present:

Jan:

Friendship Scrap

Friendly Hand

Friendship Star Variation

Feb:

Scot’s Plaid

Scrapbagger

Z-Cross

Scrap Diddly

Bonus:  Solitaire

March:

Hope this helps!  I will try and keep the list updated.

Thanks for playing along.  See you next week with the Challenge Block.  We may go with paper piecing.  We shall see.

Chat later.

March Block #3 Once A Week Keep Your Own Block

Since I live in California, the next block will be California and can be found here:  http://www.quilterscache.com/C/CaliforniaBlock.html.

It is a 12 inch block.

Have fun!

Family Time

Yesterday was my birthday, I turned 57 and I was born in 1957!  What a great time I had with my family.  We started off by going to breakfast at Huckleberry’s with our friends, Dan and Liberty and I had the Louisiana shrimp omelet, it was so yummy.  That was my breakfast, lunch and dinner for the whole day!   We had a great time visiting and just enjoying each other’s company.

Doug and I then went out and did a little shopping, didn’t buy anything except for some tiny slices of choc cheesecake for later.  Around 2 or so, Candis and my Dad joined us and we exchanged gifts.  Dad’s birthday was the 8th of March.  The weather was beautiful outside and so we played with the grandkids!

That is Annalee, almost 2 years old and just as sweet as the flowers she’s blowing on!

Kathy had to work and since I was manning the camera, well….  Kathy and Jenny did give me a beautiful bouquet for my birthday!

It was a great birthday!

LIST OF BLOCKS MADE SO FAR:

Hi Everyone

I thought it might be helpful, as did Donna R, to list the blocks for the last 3 months so that we can keep better track of them.  I think this is a good idea as I am constantly misplacing my list or looking through the patterns trying to remember which one I did.  These can all be found at quilter’s cache.

Just a reminder that the blocks are meant as a challenge to hone our skills as quilters and if you want to pass on a block that is okay.  We just ask that you post a picture when done.  If you can do it within the month, even better but don’t worry if it isn’t done on time.  I, myself, due to illness and other things going on, am behind on my blocks!

Hope this helps!  I will try and keep the list updated.

ONCE A WEEK KEEP YOUR OWN BLOCK FOR MARCH #2

Good Morning and Welcome Back!

The name of our second block is Golden Gate.  It is 9 inches and can be found here at: http://www.quilterscache.com/G/GoldenGateBlock.html.  It is similar to our first block, Hole in the Barn Door, but a little harder.  I will be doing mine in scrappy colors and think that it would make a great quilt on its own.  Remember to post pictures when finished and you have the whole month of March to finish, or if you like can do them on your own.

Have fun!

Once A Week Keep Your Own Block, March Block 1

Top of the morning to you and welcome back!

Are we ready for March?  Here is the first block and is fairly easy.  It is called Hole In The Barn Door and is 12 inches.  I will be doing mine in scrappy colors but you can choose our own fabrics, if you wish.  Remember, the block is for practice and to see how we can do the blocks and if we can do the harder blocks as they come along.  The block can be found here at:  http://www.quilterscache.com/H/HoleintheBarnDoorBlock.html.

Have fun and remember to post pictures of your beautiful creations!

Block 4, February Once A Week Keep Your Own Block

Welcome Back

The next block is called Scrap Diddly and can be found here at:  http://www.quilterscache.com/S/ScrapDiddlyBlock.html.  This is a 10 inch block and a good way to use up scraps.

Also, we have a bonus block called Solitaire and can be found at:  http://www.quilterscache.com/S/SolitaireBlock.html.  This is a 12 inch block.  Have fun!  Please post pictures!

BLOCK #3, ONCE A WEEK KEEP YOUR OWN BLOCK

Welcome back!

The third block for February is ready and is called Z-Cross.  You can find it here at: http://www.quilterscache.com/Z/Z_CrossBlock_Page2.html.  This is a 10 inch block.

I will be using large scraps of fabric or my 10 inch squares to make it, so you can bet it will be scrappy!

Please remember to post pictures to the group of your creations.

Will see you next Saturday with a little bit harder block for you!
