And yet another UFO is born!

I dipped into my wash basin full of scraps (yes, I do use those as they are lightweight and hold a lot) and pulled out an assortment of green, black and light colors.  That was one large handful and it hasn’t even made a dent!  That’s my leftover scraps basin.

I am now pressing them and cutting them into 3 x 5 1/2 inch strips and will be making something similar to that.  I think it will make a nice quilt for a man because of the colors.  And these are scraps from other quilts.  This will be added to the pile of donation quilts.  I may pull in some lighter green scraps to balance the colors.

DONNA’S DOUBLE DARE CHALLENGE 2020 PART 4

Welcome back!  I hope everyone is enjoying their coronovacay!  After all, we are quilters and we have been training for this for a long time.

MARCH 20, 2020

PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL BE ADDING LINKS HERE AS WE GO ALONG.  PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO CHECK.

This is a list of the blocks that are left in our challenge.  I am working from the outside corners to the center and after that, they will be repeated, except for the center block.  This list does not include the blocks that have already been made or posted.  Pictures and instructions will be provided as we go along.

CORNER BLOCKS:

SILK FANS:  You will need to make 4 of these.   These are simply Dresden Blades.  Remember to rotate them with the background facing out on all corners.  You have the option of either using an embroidery, applique or pieced pattern, if you wish.  Please feel free to embellish any way you want to.  I know that some of you have already started or made these pretty block, so please do share them with our group.  We all love to see eye candy!

OUTSIDE BLOCKS:  This will be on the top and bottom portions.  You will need 2 of each block.

1.  MOSIAC:   This is a pieced block.

2.  CHRYSANTHEMUM:   This can be made in a variety of ways.  It is actually another version of the Dresden Blade block pictured above only with rounded edges.   Templates are included in the pattern, please make sure to print 2 copies.  They are already the correct size but still check your printer before printing.  Also, if you have a petal template, you can use that as an alternative.

3.  COXEY’S CAMP:  This is the one we are working on for this week.  It is another version of Square-in-a-Square and is fairly easy to make.  Instructions will be posted later today.

SIDE BLOCKS:  We have already completed 2 of these blocks, LeMoyne Star and Susannah.  We have one left to make.

CELTIC PATCH:  This should be done as an applique block.

SPECIAL BLOCKS:  If you scroll above you will notice that there are 4 empty spaces.  Those are for the embroidery blocks.  These do not include the patterns that were downloaded for embroidery.   You were allowed to use 4 of the patterns to put there.  I believe there was Kimono, Mt. Fuji and a few others.   Please read the post at the top of our site for more clarification.  There also were Fan patterns that you could substitute for the Dresden Blades on the outside corners.

INNER BLOCKS:  We have 2 blocks in the center that are NOT special (embroidered) blocks.  You will need to make 2 of each.

1.  PICTURE FRAME:  This block is actually called Check Frame in EQ8 and can be found in their files.    You can go with either the diagonal slant and use contrasting colors or have an opportunity to use it as a frame around a special piece of fabric that you want to show off.  OR, you can do some embroidery in the center.  The possibilities are endless.

2.  CELTIC PATCH #5:  This is an applique block.  I will be providing patterns for it later.

AND FINALLY OUR CENTER BLOCK:

CARD BASKET:  This is an easy pieced block but watch your placement of triangles on it!  JUST ONE BLOCK IS NEEDED.
