COPPIN NEWSLETTER

Greetings from the Coppin Clan!  We hope and pray that this coming year will be full of blessings and joy for you and your families!

Doug, even though he has been retired for a while now, is now running a taxi and babysitting service from home, courtesy of Kathy.  We ferry both grandchildren back and forth to school, Annalee (age 4) in preschool and Sam in 3rd grade, and they both get out at different times.  We also offer a delivery and pickup service for Kathy when An is working odd hours.  Doug has brought me on board as an extra sitter for when we have more than one delivery or pickup at a time.  This has made life fairly interesting to say the least!

Samnang (age 8) is doing well in school and loves to play on his computer and build cars online.  Hard to believe that they are growing so quickly!  An is training for a manager position at the CVS, and Kathy is working as the counter manager for Estee Lauder cosmetics in Macy’s at Fashion Fair.  They have quite the small zoo in our shared back yards; let’s see 4 chickens, 1 rabbit, 3 dogs, and 4 large aquariums in their house.  As for us, four cats own the house and allow us to live and sleep in the bed with them in exchange for food and petting now and then.

Jenny and Ariel had moved here from Michigan a couple of years ago and we enjoyed having them here so close.  Jenny was offered a better position by her previous employer and they just moved back to Michigan in October.  We really miss them a lot.  Ariel has received his full veteran’s benefits and is on disability and is doing very well.  Matthew will be 14 soon and wants to be a veterinarian and loves being around animals.  Emma is 4 years old and looks just like her Mom when she was little and is quite the little princess!  Such precious treasures.

I am now retired and the only thing I miss from there is my miniscule paycheck!  I was diagnosed earlier last year with Sjogren ’s syndrome (an autoimmune disorder) and this has been a challenge physically and emotionally for me at times, but for the most part I am doing fairly well.  Since I have so much extra time on my hands I am more involved with quilting, guild activities and playing with my grandchildren.  Annalee is 4 and has been helping me sort fabric while sewing and we may have another quilter in the making!  It has been a good year and we are all blessed and happy!

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  Remember that God is in control no matter what happens!

Love,

Doug and Donna

Birthday Gift

This is what I have been working on for the past few days. It is a felt paper doll for my granddaughter, Annalee. She is 4 years old today and I think she will love it. It even has extra outfits and a pocket for storing the clothes.

Finished

This is my latest finish, a patriotic table runner. Was supposed to be an afternoon project but went into 2 days. It is a quilt as you go project and I used up a lot of my patriotic strips.

PARKING LOT SALE

Yesterday was a lot of fun. Did a vendor’s booth with a friend of mine. It was at Quilter’s Paradise in their parking lot along with an antique car show right in front! Sold several goodies and made a little money and had a blast with my friend, Gerry! My shoulders and neck are a little sore, but well worth the fun. We were in the front middle as you come in, so we had a lot of customers, wives with children coming in while the husbands looked at the cars.

Gerry makes all these beautiful American Doll clothes, including sandals and shoe boxes to put them in! Plus underwear! Very talented and clever lady! I made a bunch of sleep masks, clutch purses, and had a lot of other goodies from my sewing room out and sold most of it. The booth next to us had a booth full of fabric at a reasonable price. In fact, I got a really good deal, 10 cents per piece (a little irregular)! I spent a grand total of $1.50 for 15 irregular pieces. That was all I spent as I am trying to save a little for the quilt expo at the end of the month.

Doug was a true sweetheart and lugged everything back and forth from the cars for both Gerry and I. We went out for dinner last night as I was just too tired to cook.

SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY QUILTERS GUILD

Here are some photos from the show that our guild put on this past weekend.  We had a very good time.  Enjoy!

I was going along merrily taking pictures and then I ran out of space on my camera, and of course, I forgot to bring a spare.

Quilt Show

WOW! What a long afternoon. I had forgotten the hard work that goes into setting up a quilt show and I am dog tired! We spent the afternoon setting up tables, both plastic and wooden, receiving goods for the Country Store and then taking quilts and getting them ready to be hung tomorrow. I will be there all day tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday. Monday is our anniversary but I believe I will be resting all day! We will celebrate on Tuesday.

Still have 2 loaves of bread to make for raffle baskets. Probably will get them set up in the morning and let them rise all day and bake in the evening. Calling it a night. Will chat more on Wednesday.

END OF AN ERA

This little Mitsubshi has been around for a long time, actually since Kathy was a Junior in high school and An was a Senior and started dating.  I remember that he brought it over for Doug for his approval and to look it over before he bought it.  I sat in that car once!  I felt like I had to fold myself up to get in and out.

Anyway, it has not been running for the past few years and has been sitting in their driveway waiting for the pink slip to clear and for it to be towed.  Today, was that day.  As much as I love to see it go, I hate to see the end of a wonderful era.  Kathy and An have been together for a long time and that little car has a lot of memories for them.

So long, little Mitsubishi!

Quilt Show Entries

Here are a few finishes from this month. The first one is Snowman, a BOM from the guild and will be in the show next month.

IMG_1946

The second one is a sampler from many years ago from another group. This was going to be in the show, but it had issues with the back and pleats, so I decided against it.

 IMG_1993

The third one is almost finished, just need to do a little more quilting, binding, sleeve and label. It is a Purse Swap from another group and all blocks are signed with their name and hometown.

IMG_1997

The last one is the Round Robin that I just got back and am in the process of deciding how to embellish it. I hope to have it done by the end of the week so that I can work on getting stuff ready for the quilt show. This and the one before will be in the show, too. I am thinking small green ric-a-rac for vines and then appliqueing leaves in between the outside flowers. I found some butterflies to be appliqued in my stash and I decided to use those along the border and in between the flowers. I was pleasantly surprised that they actually matched! What a great find. Not sure if I am going to do a solid border on the outside to finish it off or if I want to repeat the colors in a piano key or small squares and then a solid border. I am going to do dragonflies in a few of the corners and then a meandering stitch with flowers to quilt it.

Anyway, that is what I have been up to here lately. Chat later.
