BUST THE BITS AND PIECES PARTY 2025

OCTOBER 23, 2025

Is your stash starting to expand and invading other areas than your sewing studio?  Then it is time to ask a few questions:Are your muffin bins topped and about to explode at any minute?
Do you feel overwhelmed? Not sure how to use it or what to do with it, and almost to the point of giving it away?
I feel that way too, at times!  Not to worry! I believe I have a cure for this common ailment.

Each Thursday I will find some ideas and patterns to use up some of the scraps and even some helpful hints to declutter, and control our stash.Today is just a  mix of goodies!

Our first one is from the Quilted Forest, showing how to do a Simple Jelly Roll Half Step.

That is all for today.  I will see you next Thursday with more ideas!  Thank you for stopping by!

A FIVE YEAR PLAN?

I have an idea. I hope that it works. I figure by 2030 I will be 73 years-old and that should give me 5 years to finish all of my quilt projects. I have 43 projects listed so far, but so many more in my mind, not to mention patterns waiting their turn to be worked on, and scraps of paper with notes for new ideas, some not even started yet. PLUS! I have a ton of embroidery patterns that I want to make, and several year long projects that are either started or just kitted. Oh, and not to mention a ton of fabric to work with!

I am not sure how I will work this out, right now it is just an idea. Would you like to follow along? If you have an ideas they are more than welcome, or if you want to tag along on the journey.

I think my first step is to look at my UFO list and reevaluate where they are in order of being completed.

I have 43 projects listed at the moment, and one of them just needs binding, making 42. I also have 3 that are going to be quilted by check as they are too big for me to handle, and I will bind them when they come home. That leaves 39 UFOs, but they stay on the list until completely finished.

So, you’re probably thinking, Okay, I only have 42 projects, so why a 5 year plan? There are several reasons. One, some of these have been marinating for more than 6-7 years and I am a slow seamstress, plus life gets in the way at times. Or, I get tired of a project, distracted by some new ‘Squirrel’, or I have an issue with it, and it gets put in timeout, sometimes for a long while. I also manage this blog and a group online so we have swaps or challenges, plus a guild. I also make a lot of donation quilts for various places.

But my biggest issue are ‘Squirrels”! Too bad the squirrel vaccine doesn’t work on me. Squirrels equal new projects that are added to the list, so I want to get a handle on some of the older ones and get them finished. Please assure me that I am not alone!
