BUST THE BITS AND PIECES PARTY 2024

SEPTEMBER 19, 2024

Is your stash starting to expand and invading other areas than your sewing studio? Are your muffin bins topped and about to explode at any minute?

Do you feel overwhelmed? Not sure how to use it or what to do with it, and almost to the point of giving it away? I feel that way too, at times!  Not to worry! I believe I have a cure for this common ailment. Let’s bust our scraps, especially those little pieces that seem to multiply when your back is turned.

Each Thursday I will find some patterns that will deal with the little pieces and even some of the larger and odd pieces that we all tend to accumulate.  Today let’s look at our collection of floral fabric.  Come on, we all have a stash of Why Did I Buy That!  Let’s bring it out and use it.  As Bonnie Hunter says, if it is ugly, cut it smaller!

Our first one comes from Just Get It Done Quilts, 5 Ways to Use Ugly Fabric:

1.  5 WAYS TO USE UGLY FABRIC ***FREE QUILT PATTERN*** (youtube.com)

The next one is from Sew Easy by Sandy.

2.  I Made a Quilt Entirely from Ugly Fabric (And it’s beautiful…) (youtube.com)

And from Sew Chatty Episode , Bland Designs and the Idiot Quilter:

3.  Sew Chatty Ep50 “What To Do With Ugly Fabric” March 18, 2022 (youtube.com)

Have fun!  I will see you again next Thursday!

SEPTEMBER 13, 2024

Oops!  I completely missed yesterday!

Is your stash starting to expand and invading other areas than your sewing studio? Are your muffin bins topped and about to explode at any minute?

I believe I have a cure for this common ailment. Let’s bust our scraps, especially those little pieces that seem to multiply when your back is turned.

Each Thursday I will find some patterns that will deal with the little pieces and even some of the larger and odd pieces that we all tend to accumulate.  Today let’s look at our collection of floral fabric.  Come on, we all have a stash of large flower prints hiding away for who knows how long.  Let’s bring those out into the light of day and turn them into something beautiful!

Our first one is from Fabric Cafe and has 3 ways on How to Master Floral Fabric.

1.  3 Ways to Master Floral Fabric – (Matchmaker Episode 27) (youtube.com)

And also from Fabric Cafe, 3 Unique Fall Quilts, Which one is your match?

2.  3 Unique Fall Quilts – Which One is Your Match? (Matchmaker Ep. 31) (youtube.com)

And the final one from Fons and Porter, Using Large Scale Fabric

That is it for today and I will see you again next Thursday!

COMING SOON: October 28! Our 10th Anniversary on FB and a new Mystery Quilt for 2025!

HISTORY: October 28. WOW! This is a special day for our Scrappy Quilters group. Did you know that we originally started on yahoo as a group that broke apart from Stashbusters. That was back in 2000, if I remember correctly. After yahoo groups shut down, we moved to FB under the name of Stash-Quilters and then later changed to Scrappy Quilters. From Scrappy Quilters, we had a few offshoot groups for special projects, Flower Garden, Donna’s Double, Mini Block Club, String Theory, and of course, this blog that was once called Quietly Quilting Ministries. A few years ago, I was hacked and do not have access to those groups any longer. So actually, we have been around for a long time, under different names and addresses. And I have my wonderful friends, Cheryl Hall and Karen Wythe to thank for making Scrappy Quilters a big success! And of course, our wonderfully creative, patient members!

Our anniversary celebration details are still in the works, but I am hoping (and I really am trying to overcome a physical issue with chatting via zoom) to possibly set up some workshops or chat rooms where we can visit and get to know each other better. In fact, that leads into our 2025 Mystery Quilt.

This year we are going to try and do the mystery quilt via zoom! I don’t do my own videos as I am not good at using a camera or phone that way and I have no one to help set it up, but zoom should work okay. I hope that you will join us and help make it a success. As for our mystery quilt details, I am going to give you a voice, or actually a vote, in what we make.

Please leave a comment about what you would like to see happen next year.

QUILTS:

  1. A yearlong quilt, 12 blocks at 1 block a month.
  2. A series of smaller quilts, easy to make or adjust to your own tastes, say around 3 or 4.

PROJECTS:

  1. Gift items for friends, wallets, runners, post cards, etc.
  2. Seasonal projects, Christmas, Halloween, Easter, etc.

Or we could change it up and do a little of both. In order for this to work, you have to leave a comment below with your choice or if you have a different idea.

This closes on November 1, 2024, so that I will have time to get set up.

Thank you.
