Clever New Idea for Quilters, Update, Yet Again

I was really surprised and happy to see that my hint is now in print!  Guess you can’t keep a good hint down!  It is now in Fons & Porter Love of Quilting Magazine, page 8 in the May June 2012 issue!  WOW!

Do you remember when I first posted this, almost a year ago?  Well, guess what?  Fons and Porter contacted me last month and they are going to use this on their tips section on TV!  It will be on episode 1810 and should be on sometime this fall.  I tried looking for it on the website but it’s not up yet, not until after they air the show!  I will go ahead and tape it and provide a link when it airs!  What a blast!

I recently had a great idea on how to recycle the gum dispensers!  You take the dispenser when it is empty, screw the top off and then you have an empty container ready to be filled with your yardage of rick-a-rack, lace, binding, etc.  Then when you are ready to use it, you open the small slot and pull through the amount that you need to use to finish your project.  It keeps your binding clean and tidy and right at hand!

PS:  I sent a copy to Fons & Porter.  Maybe they will share it on TV and I can win a free subscription!

Drunkard’s Path, the Easy Way

If you’re like me, there are some quilt blocks that just intimidate me.  How do I do this and make it work?   Well, one of those blocks USED to be Drunkard’s Path.  Wanna know how to make it really easy?  Come a little closer and I’ll tell you.  I learned it from a Quilt Show a while back and it really does work.

Take a 12″ piece of fabric.  Then take a coordinating piece the same size and cut it into a circle.  Place the circle on the other piece and sew down the edges of the circle.  Simple.  Here’s the really easy part.  Take the block that you just made, and cut it in half.  Now cut it in half again.  You will see that you have 4 identical blocks that can be used in a variety of ways.  You now have your Drunkard’s Path block ready to go.  You can do this in 12 inch, 9 inch and 6 inch.  Try and see if it works for you.

Or you can try this one from Donna Jordan’s Fabrics.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWKQDOD9k1c

Have fun!
