FOLSOM QUILT SHOW 2020

On Saturday, my sisters and I went to the Quilt Show in Folsom, CA.  WOW!  What a gorgeous array of beautiful quilts in all styles!  My sisters are not quilters and even they were amazed at the variety and marveled at how they were made!  It was so exciting to see the eye candy on display and mere words cannot come close to describing the quilts, so here are the pictures for everyone to enjoy.  The show was well organized, and everyone was friendly and we had a great time!

But first, this picture!  This is my sister’s cat, Spike in a quilt burrito on top of another quilt.  That is one of the first quilts that I made many years ago!  Isn’t he a sweetie!!

WordPress is not allowing me to enlarge pictures at this time, my apologies for not being able to zoom in.

SJVQG STUDIO TOUR JUNE 2019

Gerry, Carol, Nancy and I all met at Joann’s parking lot in Clovis, and I had the wonderful privilege of driving these amazing ladies around Clovis and Fresno.  We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Here are some pictures of the places that we  visited yesterday.  In total, 5 houses and 2 shops.

I want to thank everyone for opening up their homes and allowing us to visit their favorite places to create.  Everyone was so gracious and it was a privilege to visit!

This is Terry Brown and her spacious studio!

And this is our gang:    Terry Brown our hostess, Donna Coppin, Gerry DeRienzo, Carol Mills-Henry (in back), and Nancy Becker.   Gerry was my navigator and she did a superb job!

Terry has a spacious room with several work stations and it is well laid out with plenty of room for her supplies!  And I fell in love with her refinished barn doors for her closet and the stash behind it.  It also doubles as a design wall!

Next on the tour was Janet Nuxoll.

Janet was the first place winner of “Let’s Go to the Hop Challenge” last week.  See if you can get it.  It’s Johnny Cash’s “I Walk the Line”.  One of my favorite songs as I was growing up!

A little smaller than Terry’s but well laid out, comfy and encourages creativity!  Natural sunlight and a spacious closet for storage and a lot of wall space for display and designing!  And well-organized!

Feels like you can reach out and have a piece of watermelon!

Next was our local Vac and Sew in Fresno.  It seams that we ran into a lot of friends who had the same idea!  They had refreshments ready for us and a nice bag full of goodies to take home!

It was around noon and time for lunch, so we went to The Habit for burgers.  Yummy!  Afterwards we then drove over to Cyndy Smith for a tour of her studio.

Cyndy’s studio is smaller but she has plenty of room to work, and believe me, her work is beautiful!

Forgive me for not having more pictures of Cyndy’s studio, it malfunctioned a little.

This quilt looks 3-D but it is flat.  It draws you in with the squares and makes it look as though it is pillowing out.  I love the precision of it.

Our next stop was the home of the Guild’s Stash that is  kept at Susan Schara’s garage.  Very roomy and packed full of bins that are labeled by color, themes, etc.  She also has kits in various stages that are ready to be sewn, quilted or bound.  Susan is so generous to host the stash and we appreciate all that she and her volunteers do for the guild.  A big round of applause to this energetic and sweet woman.  She also does long arm quilting from her home.  I do not have pictures of her set up or of Susan.

Carol did manage to come home, with Diana’s help,  with a few kits that she will work on this month and then turn them in to the guild to be quilted.

We are now leaving Fresno and heading back to Clovis for the final two stops.  At our last stop, we will turn in our passports and maybe one of us will win the door prize.  Next stop, D&J’s Fabric Shop.

This is one of the owners of D&J’s but I did not catch her name.  It is a lovely shop that sells Babylock and Bernina machines of all types, plus fabric.  They also have a room set up for classes that you can enroll throughout the year.

FINAL STOP!  Michelle Carlson!

Michelle’s studio is upstairs and is HUGE!  She even had to take over the room next door to put in another long-arm machine.  I believe they are all Noltings and are computerized.  She has her business here and does excellent work.  She says that she has very little time to sew for herself as she is busy year round.  Oh, she also has a Brother embroidery machine, and it is heavy duty and large.  Sorry, did not get a very good picture of it.

I love her collection of different threads, a gorgeous rainbow of colors.

And so we say goodbye to the Studio Tour!  We all had a wonderful time oohing and ahing over all that we saw.

Thank you for stopping by!

SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY QUILT GUILD SHOW 2018

I went to our guild’s quilt show today with my friend, Sandra, and we had a blast.  It is called the American Symphony of Quilts and tomorrow is the last day of the show.  I didn’t enter anything this year but it was so inspiring seeing all of the creative talent that our quilters have.

Here are some pictures.  If you click on a picture, you can pull it up to look closer at the details.  Have fun!

PARKING LOT SALE

Yesterday was a lot of fun. Did a vendor’s booth with a friend of mine. It was at Quilter’s Paradise in their parking lot along with an antique car show right in front! Sold several goodies and made a little money and had a blast with my friend, Gerry! My shoulders and neck are a little sore, but well worth the fun. We were in the front middle as you come in, so we had a lot of customers, wives with children coming in while the husbands looked at the cars.

Gerry makes all these beautiful American Doll clothes, including sandals and shoe boxes to put them in! Plus underwear! Very talented and clever lady! I made a bunch of sleep masks, clutch purses, and had a lot of other goodies from my sewing room out and sold most of it. The booth next to us had a booth full of fabric at a reasonable price. In fact, I got a really good deal, 10 cents per piece (a little irregular)! I spent a grand total of $1.50 for 15 irregular pieces. That was all I spent as I am trying to save a little for the quilt expo at the end of the month.

Doug was a true sweetheart and lugged everything back and forth from the cars for both Gerry and I. We went out for dinner last night as I was just too tired to cook.

Quilt Show

WOW! What a long afternoon. I had forgotten the hard work that goes into setting up a quilt show and I am dog tired! We spent the afternoon setting up tables, both plastic and wooden, receiving goods for the Country Store and then taking quilts and getting them ready to be hung tomorrow. I will be there all day tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday. Monday is our anniversary but I believe I will be resting all day! We will celebrate on Tuesday.

Still have 2 loaves of bread to make for raffle baskets. Probably will get them set up in the morning and let them rise all day and bake in the evening. Calling it a night. Will chat more on Wednesday.

Quilt Show Entries

Here are a few finishes from this month. The first one is Snowman, a BOM from the guild and will be in the show next month.

The second one is a sampler from many years ago from another group. This was going to be in the show, but it had issues with the back and pleats, so I decided against it.

The third one is almost finished, just need to do a little more quilting, binding, sleeve and label. It is a Purse Swap from another group and all blocks are signed with their name and hometown.

The last one is the Round Robin that I just got back and am in the process of deciding how to embellish it. I hope to have it done by the end of the week so that I can work on getting stuff ready for the quilt show. This and the one before will be in the show, too. I am thinking small green ric-a-rac for vines and then appliqueing leaves in between the outside flowers. I found some butterflies to be appliqued in my stash and I decided to use those along the border and in between the flowers. I was pleasantly surprised that they actually matched! What a great find. Not sure if I am going to do a solid border on the outside to finish it off or if I want to repeat the colors in a piano key or small squares and then a solid border. I am going to do dragonflies in a few of the corners and then a meandering stitch with flowers to quilt it.

Anyway, that is what I have been up to here lately. Chat later.
