I will be posting the other blocks over the weekend.

MARCH BLOCKS:

NOTE:  I started a new post as the other was too long, so from here on out I will be making a new post each month.  This means that if you’re new to the group that you will have to go back a little to find the previous posts.

BLOCK #1:  TWIN SISTERS (JACK AND JILL)

Here is the link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23kiRjukyCY.

My only issue with this tutorial is that it comes out at 5 inches instead of 6 inches.  To correct this, you need cut the strips at 3.5 inches each.  Then sew together to give you a 6.5 inch strip, then cut on the diagonal.  Then sew four triangles together to make this fun block.  If you look closely, each triangle will be facing in from the top, bottom and sides.  Just a precaution, when cutting on the diagonal, be careful with the direction of the cut as it will affect the size of the block and may not go together correctly.  Ask me how I know this.  😀

BLOCK :  RAIL FENCE

This is a very easy block to make, but in case you need a little help, here is a tutorial.  Remember, when you make the block it should measure 6.5 inches.  Scroll down and choose the 6.5 inch.  You will want to cut each strip 6.5 width x 1.5 length in inches as there are 4 rails to each sub-block.  Sew together and you have a pretty block.  This is just a practice block and I will probably redo mine.

Here is the link:  https://newquilters.com/rail-fence-quilt-blocks-strip-piecing-tutorial/  You will need to scroll down a bit to find the pattern.

I am also attaching a cheat sheet in case you want to make different sizes.

How Wide to Cut Strips for Rail Fence Blocks

BLOCK :  CANDLE AND HOLDER

Okay, I misspoke earlier.  There is one applique pattern and this is it.  But you have to admit, it is cute, sweet and very easy to make.  I am still working on mine and hope to have it made this afternoon.

Here are the instructions along with the templates and patterns to cut out.  If you are using Electric Quilt, make sure that when you go to the Block Library, pick Candle and  Holder, that will take it to Edit the block, check Preview and it will give you the scale that you need.  That is 6 inches with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.  Then click Print Picture, and then print the pattern so that you cut it out.  There should be 3 pieces of paper altogether.

The instructions are listed in the files.

BLOCK #4:  STRIPED SHAMROCK

This block looks complicated but it really is easy once you get the pattern sized correctly.  You will need an assortment of 12 different green fabrics plus a background.

Cut your green strips into 3.5 x 1.5 inch strips.  You will only need one of each strip so this is a good way to use up a lot of small pieces.  I have found that no matter what shade of green you use, they all play well together very nicely.

Now that you have your strips cut, sew them into sets of 3.  You will need 4 units.

For the background, you will need twelve (12) 2 x 2 inch squares.  Place these on 3 corners of each set and sew on the diagonal.  Once they are sewn on, trim off the dog ears.

Now arrange your sets and sew them together as a 4 patch.  Trim down to size and you are done.
