Zaccheus, A Wee Man With Faith The Living Bible
Luke 19:1-10
“As Jesus was passing through Jericho, a man named Zaccheaus, one of the most influential Jews in the Roman tax-collecting business (and of course, a very rich man), tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowds. So he ran ahead and climbed into a sycamore tree beside the road, to watch from there.
When Jesus came by he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zaccheaus!” he said. “Quick! Come down! For I am going to be a guest in your home today!”
Zaccheaus hurriedly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. But the crowds were displeaed. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner”, they grumbled.
Meanwhile, Zaccheaus stood before the Lord and said, “Sir, from now I will give half of my wealth to the poor, and if I find that I have overcharged anyone on his taxes, I will penalize myself by giving him back four times as much.
Jesus told him, “This shows that salvation has come to this home today. This manwas one of the lost sons of Abraham, and I, the Messiah, have come to search for and save such souls as his.”
Even though Zacchaeus was notorious fro cheating people by overcharging taxes, he wanted to see Jesus and find out more. This shows earnestness as he wanted to know more. He did, and Jesus saved him and changed his life.
PRAYER: Heavenly Jesus, I PRAISE YOUR HEAVENLY NAME! Thank you for coming down and saving me. Please grant me the faith that Zacchaues had when climbing the tree to see Jesus and for his changed heart. Let my faith continue to well up inside and overflow into other lives. Let me be eager, no EXCITED, to share and not to look down on others, and to rejoice with the angels above when their lives change. Change my ways, O Lord, as YOU came to save a sinner such as I. Thank YOU, Lord Jesus! AMEN!
